Program Evaluation- Module 2
Program Theory:
To better understand the problems being addressed in the Africa Yoga Project, my evaluation will begin with a problem solving process. Specifically, I have identified a useful strategy called The Cause and Effect (Fishbone) that allows a group of people to brainstorm and discuss the root causes of problems. This strategy will be useful because the Africa Yoga Project aims to remedy a major problem facing youth in Africa: underemployment and unemployment. There are also other problems that the program wishes to address such as lack of civic engagement and lack of engagement in the wellbeing industry.
By identifying the problems and the root causes of the problems, I will be framing my evaluation around the change model, which will aim to focus on the determinants outlined using the Fishbone and ultimately the interventions that will lead to the programs goals and outcomes.
Evaluation Approach:
To evaluate the program, my approach will be two-fold. First of all, I will utilize a logical framework to outline the goals, purposes, outputs, and activities of the program. Afterwards, I will improve this framework by adapting it slightly using the goal oriented project planning framework, which is an improvement made upon the standard logical framework.
I believe my approach is a good fit for the program I seek to evaluate because the logical framework is useful for more complicated interventions. When discussing underemployment and unemployment for youth, both the problems and solutions are complex in nature. Furthermore, this framework will clearly show the connections between the activities, their purposes, and the goals the program aims to achieve.
